Note:

  • the unit of the given mass is grams, we have to convert first grams to kilograms. 1 kg = 1000 grams. 300 grams ×  1 kg / 1000 grams = 0.3 kg
  • Convert the given velocity to m/s. 1 km = 1000 m and 1 hr = 3600 s

6 km/ 3 hours = 2 km/hr

2 km/hr × 1000 m / 1 km × 1 hr / 3600 s =  0.56 m/s

Given Data:

m (mass) = 300 grams or 0.3 kg

v (velocity) = 2 km/hr ( 0.56 m/s) west

p (momentum) = ? unknown

Solution:

The formula for momentum is momentum = mass × velocity ( p = mv )

p = mv
